Meditation for Beginners: 5 Resources to Jumpstart Your Meditation Practice

The Refined Collective Podcast has been around for over 80 episodes to keep you company on your morning commute or during your workout. Now that a lot of us are working from home and feeling stressed about everything going on in the world, I thought it would be nice to gather up all the episodes that can best serve you during this time to make it easy to listen.

Some of them focus on meditation specifically and others focus more on creating space, finding pockets of calm, and finding quiet time. My hope is that these will bring you peace and a sense of calm. So find yourself a cozy space, grab some immune-boosting tea, press play, and enjoy!

1: How to Meditate (It’s not that scary, I promise)

“Meditation is practicing ‘being’ instead of ‘doing.’”

Kat Harris

A mentor of mine once said that we are all talking to God all the time— that’s prayer. When we need to be still and listen to God, that is meditation. In this IGTV video, I share some basic approaches to meditation and I guide you through a 10-minute meditation. Check out the IGTV here.

2. Still Waters Meditation

“Ask God what he has for you.”

Kat Harris

Part 2 of the IGTV meditation series is all about practicing Lectio Divina while going through Psalm 23. Lectio Divina is latin for ‘divine reading.’ In this guided meditation, I read through a passage from the Bible three times. The first time and second time, simply listen. The third time, notice what words or phrases feel illuminated to you. Check out the IGTV here.

3. Episode 019:  Tackling Fear and Anxiety with Kat Harris

“Light always overcomes darkness. And truth defeats fear. ALWAYS.”

Kat Harris

As you sit, take a moment to do this: breathe in and breathe out longer. When we have longer exhales than inhales it physically communicates to our minds that we are safe.  It's a pretty wild thing. Once again, our bodies designed to heal. One of the tools I turn to often when fear comes knocking is literally OUT LOUD speaking truth to myself. Check out Episode 019.

4. Episode 086: How Meditation Can Change Your Life

“It’s very hard to be up in your head when you’re breathing like that.”

Jackie Viramontez

Down to the specifics of meditation, Jackie Viramontez is a guest on this episode and she shares the basics of meditation and breathwork. If you have stayed away from meditation in the past because it has felt scary or intimidating, this is the best place to start! Listen to episode 086.

5: Episode 043:  The Top 5 Self Care Practices That Cost You Nothing

“Creating space in my life to rest was setting me up for success to be more present throughout the rest of my week.”

Kat Harris

I was in a bad habit of checking email and social media before I got out of bed. This started my day off with stress and anxiety. Now, I allow an hour for this each morning, and I soak up every moment. If you're new to this, try sitting quietly in a comfortable place for 15 minutes before your day gets started. Listen to Episode 043.

If The Refined Collective Podcast has impacted your story, encouraged, and empowered you in any way and at any point I’d be so touched if you’d share our podcast with your world!  Whether on Instagram, Facebook, IG Stories, or sending a text or email sharing an episode that you love with a friend or loved one…I’d be tickled pink.  You know why? Because it is my vision to empower women to embrace their beauty, identity and value—and if that can happen through one woman listening to my podcast and leaving encouraged, then I’ve done my job!

XO,

Kat
