This is my favorite Em Scott look of 2013. Everything about this outfit is just h-e-r to a ‘t’. The classic peplum top, the chunky jewelry, the fun heels, and of course the coffee on the side says Em Scott.
Em outshines me in the style department by light years. She just has the it factor to me. I remember the first time I met her; it was about 5 years ago. She attended a photography workshop I was working, and we instantly connected because I loved her outfit and asked her where her pants were from (JCrew…duh!). After I got over my style crush we realized that we had a ton of mutual friends from college, and that we were basically destined to be friends.
We became fast friends, and little did we know what God would have in store for us years down the road. Em is not only a brilliantly talented photographer and obviously has killer fashion instincts, but she is a woman that loves God, loves people, and always advocates for authenticity and depth throughout all areas of her life. I am so thankful to be on this journey with her, and to see what God is doing in and through her life. If you haven’t checked out her photography, go right now to her website. She captures people with such ease and intimacy.
We decided to do a best of 2013 post of sorts where I pick my top 5 looks that Em rocked this year, and she picks my top 5 looks that I rocked this year. Let me tell you this was no small feat. Maybe I’m a little biased, but I love all of Em’s looks. On a weekly basis I’m texting her pictures of my outfits asking her style opinion. She keeps me honest!
Here are my the rest of my favorite looks that Em rocked in 2013. Enjoy!
Walking the streets of Paris never looked so good. I love that Em and Aaron traveled to France for their 5 year wedding anniversary. If you’ve spent any time with these two you know they’re foodies. I’m sure their days revolved around yummy espresso, long brunches, and even longer dinners. Em just makes Paris look good. Am I right ladies?
What I love about this look is its timelessness. Everything about the outfits is classic. Simple cardigan, chambray, boyfriend jeans, and heels. There’s nothing overtly bold or special about this outfit, yet together it’s refined (sorry for the plug…heyoooo) and elegant. This could be a picture from 1970 or a few months ago, and that’s what I love. You can never go wrong with class.
Em’s American in Paris look. This is one of those outfits that I would never think of putting together, but it just works. I love the mixture of the floral scarf with the chunky cable knit sweater ontop of the pleated skirt. It’s a lot of texture, but because the colors are soft and simple this outfit feels composed yet romantic.
Some close runner-ups include:
Em’s Free People Poncho look. (The day she blogged this look, I ordered it offline, and wear it all the time. I’m actually wearing it this morning in the airport as I write this post!).
Em’s Baby Shower in Black. Every prego needs to rep the LBD, and Em nailed it.
Cheers to 2013, and all the adventures, transitions, and dreams that have happened, and to 2014…we’re ready for ya!
One thing I loved seeing at New York Fashion Week was some incredible vibrant Reds on the runway. So this week to kick off a little runway to reality, Kat + I have two NYC outfits with a pop of red.
While I would have loved to have a different jacket to share with you, the other reality for this California girl is that I just don’t have that many fun coats. It just doesn’t get cold enough to invest in them, so most of mine are the standard black or navy. After last week though and some of the coats I saw at the spring J Crew presentation I am rethinking things completely.
What Kat wore for the most epic day of our collective lives.
On to more from the Runway! I saw so many incredible gowns that I considered changing my profession to actress just so I could have an excuse to go to a movie premier or, you know, THE OSCARS, so I could wear something this fabulous.
My favorite gowns were Naeem Khan… it was a gorgeous 20s art deco affair. So Gatsby of him.
I die for this one.
Possibly my absolute favorite.
Naeeeeem! You rascal you.
Badgley Mischka also had some stunners that I would be remiss not to mention.
Some of them even us mere mortals could wear even if one was not invited to a red-carpet event.
My personal favorite : I don’t know if it’s one piece or two but I’ll take it either way.
I am dying over all the jewel tones, especially the emerald.
Wait you need to see that one again? I know. Here you go.
What do you think? We would love to hear from you, I’ll be posting all our runway pics on our facebook page and whether you love it, hate it, or predict you’ll see it on the red carpet we’d love to know.
Our last fashion week post is tomorrow, are you sick of it yet? No? Great.
This week in honor of New York Fashion Week Kat + I are excited to share with you the highlights of everything we have been up to, what we are wearing (see also : The Woes of Being a Southern California Girl in A Snowstorm) and what we have been seeing on + off the runway.
We feel so grateful to be here experiencing all of this and so looking forward to sharing our highlights with you.
Really, you get the best of the deal, dear friends, because you get all the fashion minus the freezing winds, snow + slush.
Refined at Fashion Week : Day 1
I swear I looked at the forecast before I packed, but I think there’s only so much one California girl can do to really prepare herself for the reality of a snowstorm.
(You can pin some of my accessories from The Refined Woman on Pinterest!)
Marissa Web's new collection is so wearable! I love the tailored structure to her suits, skirts + coats.
The black + white accessories + inverted french manicure is the perfect compliment.
Some of my favorites from the Marissa Webb presentation:
The Monique Lhuillier runway show knocked my socks off. The way she innovates a gown season after season is such an inspiration to me. Every piece is fitted perfectly to be flattering for a woman’s shape. The texture and detailing was incredible.
Afterwards we made our way backstage + accompanied Krista Soriano as she was able to ask Monique a few words about the collection. See Krista’s piece on Elle.com for more!
For this shoot I was going to be lugging a photo booth setup in addition to my normal gear and I just knew a skirt or dress wasn’t going to work for that. After I got the blazer as a gift from my (amazing!) husband I went on a search for pants to go with it and I love these navy high waist trousers from J. Crew. The color and the cut feel more exciting than regular black dress pants. Since it was still unseasonably warm a few weeks ago, I went with a short sleeve button up to keep from overheating.
Pants – Hutton trouser: J. Crew (they come in long inseam too!), Schoolboy blazer: J. Crew, Button up shirt: American Apparel, Watch: Michael Kors, Wedges: Salvatore Ferragamo, Camera Strap: Apolis; Glasses: Warby Parker
