Call it a blanket. Call it a poncho. Either way I LOVE IT.
But if you want to know the truth, I couldn’t get motivated to put on any eye makeup. I’m pretty sure that’s why they invented sunglasses, and red lipstick.
#makeitwork ladies. You can’t win ‘em all.

I have a lot of aqua in my wardrobe, and I’m finding this summer I’m loving it paired with light cornflower blue.
It could be because summer is here and I’m dreaming of the sea.
I’m finding this statement necklace surprisingly versatile recently.
These sandals are so comfy… they traveled to SE Asia and back and I still love ‘em.
Thanks so much to my sweet Delbarr for snapping a few of these photos for me at our last brunch date.

I’m sure that little girls playing dress up and fashion stylists/bloggers everywhere have been hip to the idea of wearing a dress under a skirt for a long time.
It’s probably not the most revolutionary idea to some, but to me, it represented a pretty huge shift in my brain. The first time I saw it done was by my friend Melanie who was styling the wardrobe for a shoot I was photographing - she paired a gold sequined anthropologie shift under a big tulle skirt and I’m pretty sure right at that point my brain exploded.
Since then I’ve approached my closet with totally new eyes. I love this floral dress that I picked up thrifting last time I was in Paris but it’s pretty tight all over so there aren’t that many occasions to wear it, and especially because even Spring in the city is quite chilly. So I love this skirt layered over it to transition it to warmer weather. I’m ready for the sunshine people!
I loved Kat’s post on Monday about the importance of the little black dress. It really shows how deeply we love a good black dress.
So when considering the styling for our launch shoot with Bess it was kind of a no-brainer to go LBD. If there is anything we want you to take away from The Refined Woman, it’s that style doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. All it takes is the right little black dress to make you feel amazing.
I love this dress because I think it’s hard to find a good dress with sleeves that doesn’t feel too frumpy.
I will admit that the long sleeves / high neck / long hemline combo can be a tough one to pull off but somehow I like it in this dress. I think the key is the fitted sleeves and the slightly puffy skirt.
In any case it makes me feel classy and I think how you feel in a dress sometimes can be equally as important as how it looks.
If what you wear not only looks great but makes you feel great, then it can have the power to make you a more positive and (potentially) more productive person.
With that, I think I’ve given you a pretty compelling reason to go shopping (You’re welcome!) If you do - go find something that makes you happy to get dressed for work in the morning! You are worth it.
There’s something about it that makes me feel both feminine and polished and a little 50’s housewife. I like all of those things.
This is an outfit I would wear to meet with a client - it’s professional while still being stylish. Plus emerald! So hot right now.
